To This Day

Today we watched a video made by poet Shane Koyczan. It had a huge message about bullying; I was greatly moved by it, as I’m sure many other people were too. During the video I had a few connections and thoughts.

The whole video really moved me but some parts in particular really got to me. For example, the caterpillar turning into a butterfly, with the words saying “If you can’t find anything beautiful in yourself, get a better mirror, look a little closer, stare a little longer.” This being that no matter what, there is always something beautiful in Every. Single. One. Of. Us. and it isn’t always our appearance. I also thought about the butterfly as being a human, one that has outgrown everything that has happened and found the beauty within them.

Another part of the video that I really enjoyed was when it came to the part “They have to be wrong, why else would we still be here”. I thought that this quote was amazing. Anyone being bullied should know this, why would you still be here if they said you were nothing.

One connection I had to this was this year one of my friends was being bullied and she told someone. After she told everything changed, the person stopped bullying her and other people. Even though sometimes I know there is always the occasional name calling it got better.

Another connection I had was the fact that I have also said something hurtful to someone sometime in my life, I know that. I think that everyone can admit we have all done something that has hurt another person (emotionally or physically) One thing I remember doing was this game called “ The Cheese Touch” or as we called it “The (persons name) Touch”. I think almost everyone participated in this game, and I still feel bad for being part of it, and for not apologizing to the person.

One thing I realized is that inside the class people connect to all these things and say “I’m going to be nicer and not be mean to other people”, then when they go outside all of what they said is left behind and they repeat what they were doing before, bullying other people.

A way we can prevent bullying is probably, if you are being bullied to tell someone. A lot of people think that by telling they become a tattle tail and the person that is bullying them will hurt them even more, but by not telling they are only hurting themselves. Another way we can prevent bullying is if you see someone calling someone else names you should tell them to stop even though this might not always be an easy thing. Plus if you see any physical fights when your outside and it’s between people in your school then you should go get an adult to stop it.

I think the reason people bully other people is because they are going through something in their life (family, school etc.) and they are hurting but they want to see someone going through worse pain and that’s why they bully. They also might bully for other reasons, for example they might not be having an easy time making friends.

I really enjoyed the video it sent a really great message and I think it made many people really think about what is happening in school and other places. I wonder if we are ever going to get to a conclusion with this issue, and if we were to, how would we?

10! 9! 8! 7! 6! 5! 4! 3! 2! 1! Happy  New Year!  This is what me and my friends were doing at 11:59 on December 31st while the rest of my family were at home partying.

We had been planning this big New Year party for a couple of weeks. Who would be coming, what food we would be eating, and decorations. The day before me and my dad helped my mom clean the whole house, we cleaned everything down to the last flower pot. The next day my parents went out early to get some finger foods, because thats what we decided we were going to eat at the party. After they came back we created cute little snack which involved crackers, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese. My mom got some shrimps and cocktail sauce, and I got Clamato juice!

Finally after we finished all the food we did decorations, before they came back my mom and dad picked up some New Year decor, banners, signs, swirly things that come down from the ceiling and more. My dad brought out a tiny ladder and we put them up all over the house.

At about 7:20 I went upstairs and got ready because our guests would be arriving at 8 o’clock. I came downstairs and heard a loud DING DONG! I ran to the door and it was my cousin. They came in and sat and throughout the next 30 minutes more and more people came. Throughout this whole time I was looking for my  two friends, their mom was here and so was their little sister but they weren’t. When everybody finished eating my friends mom told me that that they were both at home and one of them was sick. I felt bad that they were spending New Years by themselves so I grabbed a plate of food and headed two houses down! My friends were pretty surprised, but they were happy.

We spent maybe half an hour trying pick which movie we were going to watch, we finally came to Titanic. We got snacks, and drinks then started watching. We reached half way through the movie then we decided to make hot chocolate. I checked my IPod when we were in the kitchen and realised it was 11.59 p.m Me and my friend didn’t know which part of the minute it was so we counted 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 over and over again until it finally came to 12:00 a.m. We went back and finished the movie, then I had to leave. We said our goodbyes and then I left

Even though I didn’t get to spend my time at home during the party, I got to spend New Years eve with two really important people in my life and I would take that over a party any day.

What holiday does your family celebrate? What traditions do you have during this time?

My family doesn’t celebrate Christmas, we celebrate something else called Eid! Eid is celebrated by Muslims (My religion) During Eid the younger kids get presents and the older kids get money.

Some traditions me and my family have for when Eid comes are to obviously spend time with family (and I mean our WHOLE family) We make dinner, preferably lamb, and then we open our presents and give out money. When I was little we used to go to this very big apartment and everybody in our family would come. We, as little kids would be very excited, and everybody was, as I remember in the most positive mood ever! I still have to this day the My Little Pony my grandma got me for Eid.

That’s what me and my family do for the holiday!

RINGGGG! My alarm clock went off; I jumped out of bed because today was the day I was waiting for all week. I quickly got dressed, brushed my teeth and did all the other stuff you usually do in the morning and went downstairs. I was so excited that all I ate was an apple; I knew I would pay for that later in the day. After that I got my purse with twenty dollars and a snack and then started to yell “MOM COME DOWNSTAIRS IM GOING TO CASTLE FUN PARK TODAY!”

It was 8:20 by the time we got into the car; it took us 5 minutes before we finally got to my school. I got out of the car and ran towards my classroom. I went inside and saw everybody getting their chairs; I got the queue and did the same. Our teachers told us our buddies were going to come in and play scrabble on the IPads for the morning before we left to castle Fun Park. When my buddy came and we sat down with the IPad I tried not to burst with excitement and blurt that we were going to Castle Fun Park, because I knew my buddy would fell pretty glum if he found out.

After a game of scrabble (which my buddy beat me in) we said goodbye and they left. We waited at our desk until we were told who were going to drive with. I got my driver and we went out to the car. We got in and started driving; we were there before I knew it!

We were told that right when we got there we should turn left inside the building and go inside the Tiki Room. The teachers gave us our cards and me and my friends when to play the Tetris game which we spent all our money on last year. We had $6.00 on our cards, but my friends and I brought more money to fill it up. After A while we went to the bumper cars because we had a free pass. It was so fun except I just spun around in circles. We were walking around when we heard an announcement saying “The Go-Karts are Now Open!”  We bolted.


Next thing I knew I was sitting in a green go-kart trying to get my helmet tied. When the lady told us we could go I stepped on the petal and VROOOM! I ended coming in around fifth place.

We came back inside played some more games and then at twelve o’clock we went and at pizza. We came back outside after and just played more games and went on the go-kart one more time. Then unfortunately we had to leave.

In the end It was the most fun I have had in the whole year!

Today was a really fun day! My family and I went skiing on Cypress Mountain where tiny pieces of white fluff fell down.

Everybody woke up in a panic because we didn’t know whether or not the conditions on the mountain were good enough for us to go skiing. After checking the stats every two minutes we finally came to decision. We were going to Cypress! After those words were said you might say it was like Santa’s workshop. Everybody was going around getting there stuff and it was quite organized. After everybody was ready we went downstairs and started packing our stuff into the trunk of the car. My dad and my brother had to get the ski racks onto the car so that we wouldn’t have to put them over our head.

Once everything was packed and everybody was in the car we drove to Tim Horton’s and got breakfast so we wouldn’t go up the mountain hungry. After everyone was nice and full we met up with my uncle who was going to come with us. When he got into the car with us we started to drive to Cypress. I would have slept if I could, but the fact was I was too excited. We started driving higher and higher up the mountain so my ears started to pop! We eventually got to the top and got all our equipment out of the car and got ready.

When we got ready we got in line for the lift. When it was our turn we shuffled our way up to the green line and Boom! The lift came from behind us. As we made our way up the mountain the icy wind whipped my face. Once we came to the top we skied down and repeated the whole cycle again.

After a while we all got tired so we went to the lodge. We all went to the second floor to eat; I got fries, noodle soup, and a cookie. We went and sat down at a table and ate our meal. After everybody was finished we packed all our stuff and headed to the car which happened to be parked not too far away. It turned out to be a very fun day I would enjoy doing it again.

We all have embarrassing moments. Maybe you had toilet paper stuck to your shoe, or maybe you had food spilled on your favorite shirt in public. Whatever happened, in every situation our face would go steaming red and our eyes would become wide and alerted.

Well believe it or not I’m going to tell you about my most embarrassing moment. It all started with five words “let’s go out for dinner”. If those words hadn’t been said I might have been spared the embarrassment that happened that day.

When my mom told me we were going out for dinner I got dressed, went down and sat in the car. My mom and dad also arrived shortly. We were going to Stepho’s a Greek restaurant that was somewhere in the downtown area. Other family friends were also going to meet us there so we had to hurry to make it in time. Stepho’s is almost always packed with people so unless you make a reservation you’ll be waiting outside, looking at people eat through the window. Good for us we made reservations. So after we came and met up with everybody we sat down. A waiter came gave us water and took our orders, I remember I ordered garlic shrimp. While we were waiting my dad was reaching for the bread and suddenly SPLASH! He knocked the water on the table right onto my pants! After screaming because of the freezing water on my pants I realized people started to stare. I quickly got up and went outside to the car. My mom came out and told me it would dry, but until the then the whole front section of my pants would be wet!

So that’s my most embarrassing moment. It was definitely worse than the time toilet paper got stuck on my shoe. Even though I was really embarrassed at the time but I got over it. The point is embarrassing stuff happens to EVERBODY! So next time your face goes red and your eyes get all wide, remember what happened to me and probably what happened to almost a thousand other people.

Pets are huge part of our lives. They are loyal to us and are there when we need them.  Some dogs are guides for people who have medical issues. People also might have guard dogs to protect their home from intruders.

Many, many people keep animals for pets. Dogs and cats are two of the main pets you might see when you go to visit someone. Some other pets include: Birds, fish, rodents, and reptiles. Pets are loyal and loving; once you get them they will instantly become part of the family. A lot of pets are intelligent enough to learn tricks, for example you could teach a dog how to roll over or sit. People might even enter their pets into obedience competitions.

Even though pets are fun, loving and amazing to have, they are also A LOT of work. When you bring it home you have to teach it where to go to the bathroom or else you might find little “presents” all over the house. You might be thinking “I know dogs are a lot of work, so I got a fish”, well ALL animals are a lot of work, for fish you have to feed them every single day and clean their tank when it gets dirty. Same with birds, you have to clip their wings and nails when they get long and clean their cage and so much more. Pets are definitely not easy to take care of.  

There are also pets that do jobs. Some dogs like the German Shepard serve as police dogs, they help out the police by using their sense of smell, and they are trained to detect different things. People might have a guard dog to protect their home; this dog isn’t too friendly with people it doesn’t know. There are also guide dogs that help people who are blind by guiding them to the destination.

As I said before pets are a giant part of our lives. They help us with many things and can do different jobs, that’s why I love them.

If I could live in a different time I would live in the time that my parents were my age. I would want to live in that time because I want to see how people lived back then.  How they struggled or how the cellphones looked like. I also want to live there to see what mom my means by “when we were kids it was so much different”.

I would also go back in time and invent something like the IPhone, I would make millions. I would teach people there different things like how to cook different recipes, different languages, MATH! Before I do all that though I would experience how it was like to live back then, what they ate, their chores and what the style was.

I think it would be so cool to be able to live in any time you wanted. After we saw how they lived back then, we wouldn’t complain about our lives now. I heard that they didn’t even have I Pads, scary!

I had an amazing weekend! I went to the chilly Whistler Mountain. I stayed for 3 days with my parents, family friends, relatives and my two best friends.

I woke up on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. I had forgotten that we were going to whistler so I wondered why the alarm clock had gone off. My mom came into my room and told me to get ready. I asked her “for what?” she told me “for Whistler!”. I instantly remembered and got ready as fast as I could, went downstairs with my big bulky bag knocking everything over as I walked. When I got downstairs I thought that everybody would be waiting for, turns out I would be waiting for everybody else. When my family FINALLY came downstairs, we got all our bags in the car and started driving to whistler.

When we got to whistler my parents surprised me by telling me I wouldn’t have to sleep on the sofa but I would get my own bed inside my own ROOM! I was jumping for joy. Once we got settled in we all agreed to go to the Old Spaghetti Factory. We walked through the village with our giant feather filled coats. Of course it had to be raining so we went as fast as we could.  We arrived at a dark damp staircase. We went down and found the Old Spaghetti Factory staring right at us. We sat down, ordered our meals and relaxed. Our food came almost instantly; I slurped down my seafood pasta along with the little shrimps. When everybody was done we headed back to the hotel. My friend and I went down to the outdoor pool. Wait! You must be thinking WHAT?! It’s freezing why would you swim outside on a mountain?! Well the pool is warmed up and there are 4 hot tubs around it, steam was even coming out of the pool because it was so hot. We swam, we did laps, and we had a water battle. After a couple hours we plopped ourselves into the hot tub and let the water swirl around our arms and legs, it was so relaxing. We ran back inside, dried ourselves and went upstairs.

 I got into the room and knocked on my parent’s room, nobody was there. I sighed, went in my room and showered. I got my PJ’s on and headed to my friends room; turns out their parents went out with my parents. We hung out, took pictures, made 3 cups of hot chocolate and watched some T.V. After their parents got back I ran back to my room, jumped in bed and called it a day. In the end I had SO much fun!

My favorite season is by far summer! I play a lot of sports during the summer. I have lots of good memories during the summer, plus it’s NEVER cold!

The sports that I play during the summer are badminton, volleyball, swimming and sometimes tennis. I can really only play badminton in the summer because in all the other seasons there is wind. Unless you want the birdie to get caught in somebody’s hair play in the summer, or indoors. Swimming is kind of hard to do when the falling snow has made you into an icicle, so you would have to swim during the summer. I also enjoy playing tennis with my friends, I attempt to serve, they hit it out, and that’s usually how the games go. Volleyball is really fun to play, but when a big man (my dad) smashes the ball onto a small girls (me) head it hurt’s!  

I have Lots of great memories in the summer. For one thing part of my family comes and stays at our house during the summer. My cousins and brother plus me always stay up late and I mean LATE! I also enjoy how we always go to the beach, parks, lakes and water parks. It is always so fun because that’s basically the only time of year that the WHOLE family gets together and everybody is actually happy. I also went to Egypt during the summer; I rode dolphins, a banana boat and a taxi! My brother did end up going a little over board with the room service thing.

Anyways, the point is summer is my favorite season because of all the sports I can play and because of all the great memories I keep in a little box called my heart.
